Goal: Save money through virtual servers

Solution: VMware vSphere products

  • $15,000 in cost savings
  • Ease of maintenance

Byrne Dairy, founded in 1933, began selling milk in glass bottles and delivering it to Central New York residents in horse-drawn wagons. Today, the third-generation, family-owned company produces and distributes milk, cream, ice creamm and other dairy products.

The company's facilities include two manufacturing facilities, a storage facility in Syracuse, N.Y and an Ultra High Temperature (UHT) Pasteurization Plant in DeWitt, N.Y. As Byrne Dairy continues to extend its operations -- a yogurt plant opened in Cortlandville, N.Y. in early 2014 -- the company needed to expand its engineering capabilities. Instead of purchasing more hardware it decided to transition to virtual servers for the benefits of saving money and for the ease of maintenance.

The Solution
Our engineers assisted Byrne Dairy in expanding from four physical servers to 19 VMware® vSphere virtual servers.

“Dox is the one vendor I don't have to worry about -- that I never have to babysit.”

- Derek Moon, Byrne Dairy

VMware solutions are designed for running multiple operating systems and applications on a single computer, consolidating hardware to get vastly higher productivity from fewer servers, saving on overall engineering costs, and simplifying management and maintenance.

By going "virtual" and avoiding the purchase of new physical servers, Byrne Dairy saved approximately $15,000 on hardware equipment in one year.

Derek Moon, automation engineer at Byrne Dairy, said that the company has benefitted in other ways as well. For example, the virtual servers are easier to maintain.

“It is much easier now to migrate in new equipment and to remove old equipment.”

- Derek Moon, Byrne Dairy

Moon appreciates our expertise and support. “All of the Dox engineers I work with are knowledgeable -- I’ve never had to ask the same question twice,” Moon added. “Plus, we respect each other’s time. Dox only follows up when necessary -- when there’s important information to share. There is never any pressure to sell me solutions that I don’t need.”

“When I call Dox, I trust the staff will take care of whatever the issue is in a timely manner. Dox is just great to work with.”
